Essentially the rebellion happened earlier and on Mars instead of Earth. The Battle would take place in the sky as well as the ground.
Sunstone was a rebel pilot who was in a dog fight with lapis when they crashed into each other too close to Earth's gravitational pull. They became satellites for thousands of years.
